Recommended audience include parents and extended families of children with ASD, teachers, para-professionals and BHRS support staff, guidance counselors, social workers, clinicians, advocates, psychologists and all those desiring knowledge about behaviors ASD.
Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Identify some of the characteristics of females with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome
  • Explain the benefits of individualized learning opportunities for female students with ASD
Biography:

Walter A. Graves, Ph.D. has been an advocate for students who benefit from individualized instruction and teachers who welcome challenges associated with unique learners in mainstream classrooms. After his daughter was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) during her sophomore year in high school, Dr. Graves’ became interested in helping teachers assist students who may not have an “official” diagnosis of AS.  Through his research Dr. Graves discovered the need for more information on high school students with Autism/AS – specifically females. Dr. Graves has been in public education for 27 years serving as teacher, assistant principal, and principal in both southcentral and western PA.  He is currently the principal of Baldwin High School and resides in Pittsburgh with his wife and two of their four children.
