Eating disorders can be among the most dangerous of all psychiatric disorders. Recent studies suggest there is a high prevalence of eating disorders among the autistic population. These people and their families are faced with special challenges in recovery.

This talk will review the scope of normal eating psychology, types of eating disorders and the reasons why some people develop them and others do not. The connection between eating disorders and autism will be discussed, with examples from personal experience of the speakers.  Prevention and treatment will be covered, including tips and pitfalls unique to the treatment and recovery process for autistic individuals.
