Richard E. Greer, a registered pharmacist working in the medical marijuana industry since before dispensaries opened to patients in the state of Pennsylvania, will be explaining the state’s program, explore generally accepted treatments utilizing medical marijuana for Autistic patients, and talk through the advantages of a state-regulated medical marijuana program from the perspective of a dispensary pharmacist.

At the completion of this session, learners will be able to:

1)    Understand how patients may qualify for medical marijuana and how to obtain a patient and/or caregiver card in Pennsylvania.

2)    Describe what a patient/caregiver should expect when visiting a dispensary, including:
      a.   Dispensary options/prices. 
      b.   Dispensary intake process.
      c.   Follow-up procedures. 

3)    Recognize the generally accepted medical marijuana treatments for Autism and how to apply them when initiating therapy on a new patient. 

4)    Evaluate the legal and regulatory considerations surrounding medical marijuana and how patients/caregivers can stay safe and legal. 

5)    Discuss additional insights on working with patients who qualify for medical marijuana. 

Richard E. Greer, BS, PharmD, RPh graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. While completing his doctorate, Dr. Greer served as class president for 4 years, was a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, and served on numerous student advisory committees.  As a clinical pharmacist, Dr. Greer implements his pharmaceutical expertise and medical marijuana experience working with patients and pharmacists to create a comfortable dispensary environment.  After time spent in both clinical and retail pharmacy,Dr. Greer accepted the position of Pharmacy Director for Solevo Wellness where he is responsible for the smooth operation of the pharmacy department. Dr. Greer is an active member of the International Society of Cannabis Pharmacists, a faculty member of the Pennsylvania Pain Society, a study leader at Carnegie Mellon University, and a member of Doctors for Cannabis Regulation. In addition to his director duties, Dr. Greer has spoken at multiple universities, medical societies, hospitals, and healthcare organizations.  Dr. Greer’s professional experiences include implementing clinical protocols, patient counseling, management, education and training, multidisciplinary clinical outreach, and advocacy.

He is licensed through the Pennsylvania Department of State to practice pharmacy, and is a certified medical marijuana practitioner through the Department of Health.  Dr. Greer is an expert in the pharmaceutical field who strives to provide the most comprehensive care available to achieve the best health outcomes!
